School Speech Contest

For more than 60 years, Modern Woodmen's School Speech Contest has offered students opportunities to develop skills in clear thinking and public speaking. Students in grades five through twelve in public, private and homeschools are eligible to compete in a Level 1 (Local) contest. This contest is most successful when used in a language arts, public speaking, history or civics course curriculum.

Like each of Modern Woodmen's youth educational programs, the School Speech Contest includes take-home items to recognize the efforts of participants and reinforce what is learned.

Level 1 (Local) School Speech Contest

Each participant in the Level 1 (Local) School Speech Contest receives a certificate recognizing participation.

The top 12 contestants in each Level 1 (Local) School Speech Contest receive gold-plated pins.

The first-, second-, and third-place winners of the Level 1 (Local) School Speech Contest receive plaques. (Pictured is the first-place winner's plaque.)

Level 1 (Local) School Speech Contest winners' schools each receive a plaque, to be engraved with the first-, second- and third-place winners' names. (The plaque is provided with the stipulation the school will hold the School Speech Contest for at least five consecutive years.)
